duck watching

We did a lot of duck watching this weekend at the library park.

Cate  announced (with great authority)  that humans were just slabs of meat underneath all their skin.  I asked her why, and she said she could see it in a cut she had on her hand.

She is right - but gross!

Luke has been discussing at length why some people say "oh my god"  and why he isn't supposed to say it.  Then he starts laughing and says, "If god says it, all he has to say is oh my Me!"

"Mom, if you have black hair, and you are carrying a broom, and you fall down a hill and start flying, *deep breath* does that make you a witch?"

that's new

Cate must officially be four now. 

On the ride home from school last night she asked:

Cate:   Mom, do you want to hear a new song I learned today?

Me:  yes!

Cate:  I see London, I see France!  I see Mama's underpants!!   (crazy laughter followed)

peep conversation

For dessert tonight we dug into our pack of Peeps.  (thanks Annie Manny!)

Luke:  I love Peeps!

Cate: (closely inspecting the package)  Peeps sound a lot like potty.  I am going to call them delicious chicks instead.  (ending the sentence with a smirk, and looking out at her brothers for a reaction.)

 Luke:  (laughing his head off)

Caleb:  You guys are gross.

"You know, I could make a lot of stuff out of this junk!!"
Said Luke, excitedly as he inspected the piles of rusted out gears and metal.
He really meant it too.  Fast forward twenty years, and Luke will grow up to build great things.

Conversation between Cate and Luke in the backseat on the drive home tonight:

Cate: Santa is so nice to bring us presents!

Luke: Yes Cate, you have to be good and listen to Mama - Santa knows!

Cate: I know, if you are good he brings you lots of presents!

Luke: And if you are bad, you won't get any presents. He gives you a bad cold!

Caleb: ugh! not a bad cold, a bag of coal!

i heard this

I spied on the boys last night while they talked after supper. They were discussing the new playground equipment, and their new teachers. It was fun to see them interact on that level. Luke is the newest member of the big boy club. And now that the boys have school in common too - they have much more interesting things to talk about than zombies and video games. In fact, this is what I heard:

Caleb: There is a new first grade teacher.
Luke: Yes, I saw her.
Caleb: She looks really young.
Luke: Really young? She was really pretty!!!
Caleb (laughing): I know!

both boys laughing.... then notice I am standing there.... and shut up.

Cate helped me make cookies tonight. When I told her we were all done adding things to the bowl she said, "Mom, don't forget the Tabasco sauce - Daddy likes his cookies spicy."

Last week Luke asked, "Mom, do ants need to blink?" Luke questions are funny.

I heard this

I overheard Caleb talking to himself as he was laying on the couch this morning. 5 min. earlier I had told him to get dressed or he would be late for the bus.

Caleb: (said in a theatrical movie type voice) "Objects at rest will stay at rest, objects in motion will stay in motion. I must apply force and get off this couch."

Me: (thinking in my head) What the heck???

Caleb: beep beep beep beep.... veroom! he jumps off the couch, and gets dressed.

heh.. I sure do like this kid. :)
